OutThere

by Roberto Friedman and Who's Who

Kimo's therapy: The classic Polkstrasse bar on the corner of Polk 'n' Pine has kicked off a Gay Comedy series, 8 p.m. on Monday nights, to fill the void for gay open mike created when Josie's Cabaret folded. We went to the first show, which provided ready laughs from a varied lineup of seasoned pros (Page Hurwitz, Bridget Schwartz, Pippi Lovestocking) and relative newcomers (Blake and Miracle Malone seemed particularly twisted—and we mean that in a good way). Schwartz cracked us up with her plaint that Financial District yuppies look down on her because she's an office receptionist, and call her a crack whore. "I'm not even a crack whore! I'm an assistant crack whore!"

Seems like Kimo's might fill in for the late, lamented Josie's on this score. The host and booker Nick Leonard previously appeared not only on Josie's stage, but in front of the grill in the kitchen, makin' up a whole mess of brunch.
